Daily Live Download: Bill Frisell plays John Lennon – Paris, France 2005

March 6, 2010

Bill Frisell is a real treasure, you know?  Well, hopefully you do.

If you haven’t heard the guy play the guitar before, do yourself a favor and check out this live recording.   Here, performing a set of John Lennon-penned songs, Frisell takes you on a ride that is both intellectually stimulating and emotionally engaging, all wrapped in the loving timelessness of Lennon’s melodies.  Really sublime stuff.

Accompanied by Jenny Scheinmann on violin, Frisell takes his Telecaster through spaced out digital delay landscapes, over bombastic  sheets of noise and into deep pockets of patient reverence.  During those more tender moments, it’s as if Frisell is picking notes from a perfectly ripe fruit tree and squish-squeezing their juices down into your soul, drop by drop.  So sweet, so divine (that is, if good live music is your religion).

Please enjoy.
